Andreas Hofer Bus

An information bus that traces the footsteps of Andreas Hofer!

The Andreas Hofer Bus, which will be on tour throughout the commemorative year of 2009/2010, is a modern way of presenting history. From January 2009 to February 2010 it will be visiting all of the locations where Andreas Hofer stayed 200 years ago.
The first journey, in January 2009, is to the Hofburg in Vienna, while the final destination will be Hofer’s place of execution in Mantua. Another 18 tours will occur between these two events, each with a different theme. The aim of this initiative is to communicate “The Story of 1809” to people in an original way and to link various structures in South Tyrol, North Tyrol and in the former “Welschtirol” (the original Italian-speaking Tyrol).

In addition, 32 South Tyrolean institutions have booked the bus for evening information events on the subject of Andreas Hofer and 1809. The programme also includes a documentary film and a talk, as well as the sale of literature and shop items, and a quiz with prizes.

This initiative is aimed at adult education and is being produced in collaboration with the South Tyrolean Culture Department.
