Welcome at the MuseumPasseier
The MuseumPasseier is located at the Sandhof in St. Leonhard, the birthplace of the freedom fighter Andreas Hofer (1767–1810).
The central structure, the MuseumPasseier – Andreas Hofer
is housed in the Sandhof, a listed inn building, and consists of three areas: Andreas Hofer, Folklore and an Open Air display.
The valley contains several other interesting attractions that, as branch museums, form part of the museum concept:
The Bunker Mooseum in Moos
Built from rock in the 1940s, the structure houses a historical and contemporary exhibition as well as an information centre for the Texel Nature Park. Due to open in 2009.
The Jaufenburg in St. Leonhard
The keep of this ruined castle holds an exhibition dedicated to the history of the castle and its inhabitants. The Renaissance frescoes, dating from 1538, are particularly worth seeing.
The Alm Museum in Pfistrad, St. Leonhard
This renovated former cheese dairy at 1,350 m is devoted to alpine dairy farming and life in the Middle Ages.
The French Cemetery, St. Leonhard
On the western edge of St. Leonhard, near the River Passer, a cemetery was constructed for the French soldiers who fell in the last battles of November 1809.
The Pfandler Alm, St. Leonhard
The site of the capture of Andreas Hofer (altitude 1,350 m).
