Adventure on the Jaufenstrasse
In 1912, following some eight years of construction work, the road over the 2094-metre Jaufenpass was opened. For the Passeier Valley this was a historic moment. The porters and pack animals that in previous centuries had dragged all kinds of goods over the pass were no longer required. But, with the automobile, a new world entered the valley.
The exhibition in Andreas Hofer’s former wine cellar presents numerous objects, images and recordings, as well as interesting narratives, that recount the story of the building of the now 100-year old road. Also addressed is the hard life of the porters in centuries gone by and the changes that the road brought to the Passeier Valley. Until November 2013.[more...]
